Many houses have water supplied by a shallow well, which is sited adjacent to the earth toilet. It is only a matter of time before faeces pollute the well, Water borne diseases are by far the biggest killers in Pakistan especially of the young. The infant mortality rate is amongst the 40 worst death rates in the world with 66 deaths/1,000 live births, compared with less than 5 in the UK.

We are developing workshops to teach people to make their own water filters. This is just part of a long-term aim of training up local residents in primary health care so that they can spread the word amongst their neighbours. This needs money for training and for transport.
